Get a close-up look at tribal nations and the U.S. government!
During this seven-day/six-night program, students explore current issues facing Native Americans, the rights and responsibilities of dual citizenship, and the complex relationship between tribal nations and the federal government. While discovering Washington, DC, and meeting with tribal leaders and the USET Council, students get an inside look at the American political system.
With Close Up, students have the opportunity to:
- Work with other USET youth to create a sovereignty statement to present to the USET Council;
- Engage with USET delegates and tribal leaders as part of USET Impact Week;
- Examine historical tensions between native nations and the federal government while exploring Washington’s famous monuments, memorials, and institutions; and
- Develop and present a Tribal Action Initiative after speaking with experts about issues facing Indian Country.
