As experts in both virtual and in-class instruction with almost 50 years of experience in nonpartisan, issue-centered education, Close Up offers professional development trainings, both online and on-site, that provide teachers with the strategies and resources to engage students in meaningful discourse about current controversial issues.
Close Up’s Professional Development Sessions
Our innovative training is relevant, impactful, and informed by Close Up’s decades of expertise, helping teachers navigate challenging conversations about social and political issues in all types of classroom settings. Our virtual and on-site professional development sessions are available for middle school and high school educators across the country. We provide 90-minute and 3-hour interactive trainings for schools and districts. For individual educators looking for training and PD recertification, we also offer 30-minute, on-demand sessions. Session topics include:
Empowering teachers nationwide to facilitate positive productive conversations with students in any classroom setting.
Teachers gain concrete tools to facilitate civil classroom discussions on current controversial issues and effective strategies for promoting inclusion and collaboration in both in-person and virtual classrooms. We also provide techniques to employ when civil discourse breaks down and classroom-ready resources to inform and guide student thinking. All sessions can be adapted based on school curricula, objectives, and grade levels.
