Empowering Female Voices

This fall, in celebration of the 100th anniversary of the ratification of the 19th Amendment, Close Up and the Institute for Social Impact will offer Empowering Female Voices—a program to bring together girls from schools nationwide for a series of six online civic engagement workshops. By engaging girls from different backgrounds in meaningful dialogue, we aim to help them develop empathy for the perspectives of others and build the skills and confidence needed to empower a generation of female change-makers.

Through a series of six online discussions designed and facilitated by Close Up instructors, students will engage with girls nationwide for one hour weekly sessions. Students will participate in sessions on political values, learn and deliberate about critical policy issues shaping the nation, and consider ways to activate members of their communities to take action on the issues that matter most to them.

Our curriculum specialists will also provide teachers with a virtual professional development training session and ready-to-use classroom resources to support continued student discussion and understanding of pressing issues.

The program is intended for girls in grades 9-12 and can be integrated into a current government or civics course, advisory program, club, or leadership development opportunity like student council. During this time of social distancing, the series can also replace a capstone project, experiential learning trip, or community service opportunity.

Dates:

• High School National Program – Empowering Female Voices | Every Tuesday afternoon, November 3 – December 15, 2020, from 7:00-8:00pm (EST) / 4:00-5:00pm (PST)
• Middle School National Program – Empowering Female Voices | Every Monday and Thursday afternoon, November 30 – December 17, 2020, from 1:00-2:00pm (EST) / 10:00-11:00am (PST)

Each school will be combined other schools nationwide for their one-hour discussion sessions.

Pricing:

• Individual Student (for 1-14 students): $175 per student
• Classroom or Student Group (15-25 students): $3,500 per classroom/student group
